The best team needs three kinds of person: the planner who opens the board, the ace who hits the peak, the closer who finishes the clearing up. The world of the Branches has exactly this dream team — In, O and Sul together make an enormous fire; Sin, Ja and Jin together make a great body of water. Three characters uniting into one element: the three-way combination, today’s subject.
📖 The main point — birth, peak and storehouse
Four teams: In-O-Sul (Fire), Sa-Yu-Chuk (Metal), Sin-Ja-Jin (Water), Hae-Myo-Mi (Wood). Each team’s composition is elegant. The first character is the birth seat where the energy is born (In, Sin, Sa, Hae), the middle is the peak (Ja, O, Myo, Yu), the last is the storehouse that gathers it in (Jin, Sul, Chuk, Mi). Take In-O-Sul: the spark catches at In, blazes at O, and is gathered as ash at Sul. Two of the three counts as a half combination, a semi-team. There are also directional combinations, three Branches of one season together (In-Myo-Jin for spring, and so on) — if a three-way combination is a team gathered by shared purpose, a directional one is the friends from your neighbourhood. The character of the bond differs a little.

① Look for a three-way (or half) combination among your four Branches. If there is one, that element operates far more strongly in your chart than the raw count suggests — the point where the reading departs from simply counting elements. ② Identify which team your day Branch belongs to. In the years and days of teammate characters, a fair wind blows (the “three-way tailwind” line in the daily fortune). ③ In compatibility, two people whose day Branches share a team read as a combination with synergy when they set out to do something together.

Map the three-way combination onto a team project. For the In-O-Sul Fire team: In (the birth seat) is the planner who opens the board, O (the peak) is the ace who hits the top, Sul (the storehouse) is the closer who tidies up. If meetings are thick with ideas and thin on execution, the peak role is empty; if things get launched and never cleared up, the storehouse is empty. An excellent diagnostic frame for a team. The instinct for half combinations matters too — a half that includes the peak (In-O, O-Sul) counts as a semi-team, while one without it (In-Sul) is a team without an ace and reads as weakly bound. A year in which the missing character arrives and completes the combination is a regular fixture of advanced reading: the year work in that element opens up on a large scale.
