Indirect and Direct Wealth — my money
Not a chart with more money, but a chart that handles money differently
A story to start
“Do I have money luck in my chart?” — the most common question in a consultation. The question is slightly wrong. The Wealth group shows not whether money exists but what kind of person you are with money. The element I control is Wealth — meaning that in Myeongri’s view of money, wealth is an object you control and manage.
📖 The main point — the hunter and the farmer
Indirect Wealth (偏財) is big money that moves — business, investment, distribution, opportunity money. The Indirect Wealth type is the hunter who can smell money: earns large and spends large without flinching. Direct Wealth (正財) is upright money — salary, savings, rent, money that arrives steadily. The Direct Wealth type is the farmer: unspectacular, and the storehouse never empties. A twist worth knowing: a chart with a great deal of Wealth can actually struggle with money. Plenty to govern and too little force (Day Master) to govern it, and you end up pressed by wealth rather than holding it — the classical term is “much wealth, weak self.” Money is a question of control, not of possession. That is Myeongri’s insight.
🔍 In practice
Check your Wealth. If Indirect — chances to handle a large sum come, and you must build an automatic quarantine (a savings account, a pension, somewhere you can’t reach). If Direct — compounding and time are on your side, so you only have to beat the lure of the quick win. If Wealth is absent, you are indifferent to money and correspondingly less stressed by it — leave management to a system (standing orders) and that is enough. Traditional Myeongri also read Wealth as the spouse star in a man’s chart, which the advanced course covers alongside a modern perspective.
🧭 Working through the situations
At the fork between salary and business, the Wealth group is a hint. The Direct type is strong on certainty — stepped expansion, a side venture laid on top of stable income, suits. The Indirect type is strong at seizing opportunity — on the precondition of diversification that protects the principal rather than betting everything. Know too what “much wealth, weak self” actually looks like: chances with money keep appearing and leak the moment you grasp them; you can’t refuse money-related requests and get pushed around. The prescription is to shrink the board to a size you can govern, and to gather your strength in the luck periods that help the Day Master (Resource and Friend years).
❓ Frequently asked
Q. Does no Wealth mean lifelong poverty? No. There really are plenty of wealthy people without it. No Wealth means a mild attachment to and instinct for money, which opens the route of earning through expertise (Output and Resource) and managing by system, so you get comfortable without money stress. Q. I heard Indirect Wealth means a wandering eye. That comes from an old reading of Indirect Wealth as “several partners.” The modern reading is a wide radius of activity and varied opportunity. Infidelity is a person’s choice, not a character. Q. Does a Wealth year always mean earning? A Wealth year is a year money moves. For the prepared it earns; for the unprepared it can be a year of large spending. Which is why Myeongri’s investment advice is to build ability during Resource years — study and qualifications — before entering a Wealth year.
✏️ Today’s one step
Compare how you actually manage your accounts against your chart’s Wealth. If you are an Indirect type paying only into fixed savings, or a Direct type staring at a trading screen, your chart may explain the frustration or the anxiety you’ve been feeling.
